Takamoto Katsuta has expressed his excitement about the possibility of Kalle Rovanperä returning to the World Rally Championship, as speculation continues to grow over the Finnish driver's future with Toyota Gazoo Racing.
Rovanperä, a two-time World Rally Champion, saw his plans to pursue a career in single-seater racing disrupted by health issues earlier this year. More recently, he tested Toyota’s car for the upcoming season in Spain, further fuelling rumours of a potential return to rallying. Toyota team principal Jari-Matti Latvala has also suggested that the Finn is eager to get back behind the wheel.
Katsuta, who shares a close friendship with Rovanperä and was previously his teammate, would be delighted to welcome him back to Toyota’s WRC line-up. However, the Japanese driver acknowledged that the final decision remains unknown, adding that Toyota’s driver line-up for the next season should become clearer soon.
"Of course, it would be great because he is my best friend", Katsuta said.
"We’ll have fun, that’s for sure.
"Let’s see what happens.
"You’ll find out quite soon what our driver line-up will look like.
"One thing is certain, though: it will be interesting".
