Official: Suninen to replace Tanak in Monza

Hyundai Motorsport confirmed today that Teemu Suninen will replace Ott Tanak in the final round of this year's championship after the last one is forced to miss Rally Monza due to personal family matter.

The Finn driver was competing for M-Sport Ford this season in WRC and in WRC2 until Ypres Rally Belgium when he decided to leave the team with immediate effect.

He participated in his home event in Finland with a Volkswagen Polo GTI R5 where he won this event and after that he joined the Hyundai squad in WRC2 category at Rally Spain as a replacement of Oliver Solberg who drove the i20 Coupe WRC there.

Finally, it must be mentioned that Suninen was tipped to join Toyota next year as Sebastien Ogier will have a partial programme in 2022, but eventually the Japanese team chose Esapekka Lappi over him.

"We have a last minute change in our crew line-up for ACI Rally Monza.

"Sadly Ott Tänak (and Martin Järveoja) will be forced to miss the event due to personal family matters.

"We wish Ott all the best and we can’t wait to see him back in action with the team in 2022!

"Meanwhile we welcome Teemu Suninen and Mikko Markkula to the WRC team as the Finnish duo will replace Ott and Martin in the Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC for the season finale in Italy".
