Rally Monza - 1st Day - 2nd Loop: Championship fight tightens as Evans steals the lead

At the end of the second loop of the first day, Elfyn Evans is now the leader of Rally Monza with Sebastien Ogier and Thierry Neuville following.

Elfyn Evans climbed into the first position overall after the end of Stage 6 as he set the fastest time in Stage 5 while he was faster than Ogier in Stage 6 for 2,1 seconds.

Sebastien Ogier lost his lead from Evans after the end of Stage 6 and he reported brake issues in Stage 5 resulting in dropping time.

Thierry Neuville completes the top three and he said after the end of Stage 5 that he had a gearbox issue, so he lost some time there. However, he set the fastest time in Stage 6 despite the fact that he got caught in the grass in the exit of a tight hairpin and he was spinning the wheels.

Dani Sordo remains in fourth position overall and he set the fastest time in the last stage of the day.

Oliver Solberg completes the top five and he was not happy at the end of Stage 6 as he faced a problem with the gear shift system of his i20.

Takamoto Katsuta is still sixth after the end of Day1 and he was the fastest driver in SS5 splits, but he had a stall after a hairpin and he dropped around six seconds.

Gus Greensmith comes right behind the Toyota driver with their gap being at seconds.

Teemu Suninen dropped a place and he is now in eighth position and he mentioned at the end of Stage 5 that he was struggling with the braking points.

Kalle Rovanpera follows Toyota tactics for safe driving and he remains ninth with his gap from the first place being over one minute.
