Latvala: Toyota cannot relax too much in 2023

The team principal of Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT, Jari-Matti Latvala, says that his team must keep the hard work and not to relax during the next season considering the fast progress of Hyundai Motorsport in 2022.

Toyota won all the three championship in 2022 (drivers', co-drivers' and manufacturers' championship) as it looked like that it was the most well-prepared team for the new era of World Rally Championship. Despite the fact that Hyundai Motorsport did not start in a positive way and struggled on the first half of 2022, the Alzenau-based team managed to respond and to give a solution to the reliability and performance issues of i20N Rally1 resulting in winning five rallies on the second half of the season.

Toyota and Hyundai have already tested their cars on snow in Finland ahead of 2023 earlier this month and it is expected that both teams will continue their testing programme on January in Monte Carlo before the new season getting started in Alps.

"It will be tougher in 2023", Latvala said.

"Hyundai have been improving a lot in the season.

"We just need to work a bit better and we can’t relax too much that is for sure.

"We need to be working if we want to reach the same goals next year.

"We will do some winter testing in December, we will have a couple of weeks off but then of course it all starts again".
