Tanak does not click with Ford Puma right now

Ott Tanak admits that he and Ford Puma have a mismatch considering his performance at Rally Mexico last weekend and is happy that the rally was finished.

The Estonian driver faced turbo issues on Friday morning resulting in losing more than 12 minutes in comparison with his rivals and dropping outside the top ten. His mechanics managed to repair his car for the afternoon, but still he was not happy with the behavior of the Puma on gravel. He was set the fastest times almost in all superspecial stages and managed to score four points in Powerstage. Eventually, he ended up in ninth place overall due to the fact that his car is faster than the Rally2 cars. Last but not least, it must be mentioned that he had a front damper issue in Stage 21 which did not help him to push. After the end of Rally Mexico, he is fourth in the championship with 47 points, just five points behind the reigning WRC Champion Kalle Rovanpera.

"Happy to cross the finish line, there was nothing more we could have taken from here", Tanak said.

"Still, it’s positive to at least take some points because on Friday it didn’t look like we could get any points.

"The car performance is there, it has always been there, it’s just me and the car are a bit of a mismatch, which is tricky but let’s see what we can come up with in the next weeks".
