Tanak would welcome Ogier at WRC title bid

Ott Tanak does not mind having Sebastien Ogier as his title rival again admmiting that the last one has never left World Rally Championship since his retirement as a full-time driver.

The Frenchman extended his partial programme with Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT for one more year and shares the third Yaris with Takamoto Katsuta who now can score points for the manufacturers' championship when Ogier is absent from a WRC round. So far this season, Ogier has won two rallies (Rallye Monte Carlo, Rally Mexico) and is the leading driver on the championship with 56 points despite the fact that he did not participate in Sweden two months ago. His next outing with the Yaris will be Rally Croatia in twelve days where he will start first on the road on Friday meaning that he will take advantage of the clean tarmac stages in comparison with his rivals.

"It’s fair to say he’s never left", Tanak said about Ogier’s presence on five of the last six WRC rounds.

"I guess he’s done almost every rally since the end of last year, he’s always been there.

"OK, he was probably clever to miss Sweden to have a good road position in México.

"But, for me, if he’s going to stay in the WRC, it’s the best for the championship and for rallying itself.

"I would welcome to have him around and to clean the road for us as well!"
