Kankkunen to test Toyota Hilux MHEV at Safari Rally

Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT announced today that Juha Kankkunen will be in Kenya next week to drive the Hilux MHEV.

The Japanese car brand will introduce the concept Hilux MHEV next week inf Kenya and Kankkunen will have the chance to test it in some stages of Safari Rally. So far, it is unknown in which stages the Finn driver will get behind the wheel of this pick-up, but the goal of Toyota is to demonstrate and offer options for achieving carbon neutrality in markets like the African continent with underdeveloped infrastructure.

Juha Kankkunen, the four-time World Rally Champion, is in close relationship with Toyota as the team has chosen him as its testing driver. In fact, he helped Akio Toyoda's team to develop the GR Yaris Rally2, which will be available from 2025, and had the opportunity to drive the hydrogen-powered Yaris at Ypres Rally of Belgium last year.
