Lappi stands by Neuville's efforts at WRC title bid

Esapekka Lappi will support Thierry Neuville at his fight for this year's title and accepts the job he has to do for his teammate and his team on both championships.

The Finn driver finished second overall in Sardinia last weekend despite the fact that he was fighting with Sebastien Ogier for the victory. However, he was slower than Neuville in Stage 14 when he saw that Ogier's car was off the road and decided to back off his pace meaning that TN gained two places and was the new rally leader of the event after SS14. On Sunday, EP's intention was to secure the second position of the podium and did not push as much as he did on the prvious two days, therefore Neuville increased his lead and managed to claim his first win of the season at the Mediterranean island. Although Cyril Abiteboul revealed that there were no team orders between them, the WRC fans have an opposite opinion and believe that Hyundai asked from EP to slow down in favor of Neuville who is one of the title contenders.

"You need to accept it", Lappi said.

"It's part of your job.

"That's how it is.

"If you don't accept it, you don't have a job.

"Thierry has been here for 10 years and he's been very successful in his career, and he has had the chance to fight for the title.

"So, we are here to, for sure, still fight for our own championship, but also to support Thierry.

"If we can, get Thierry and Hyundai their first drivers' title and then for sure, bring as many points as we can for the manufacturers’ championship as well".
