M-Sport’s 2027 strategy under question as Lynk & Co rumors surface

With new regulations looming and uncertainty surrounding manufacturers, a fresh rumor hints at a surprising direction for M-Sport’s 2027 campaign.

M-Sport has been known for decades for using Ford engines and models in its World Rally Championship campaigns. However, the WRC regulations are expected to change in 2027, with the new WRC27 cars being based on the current Rally2 machinery. So far, only Toyota has confirmed its presence for 2027, as it is already developing its car for that season. Hyundai is likely to withdraw from the WRC at the end of 2026, while M-Sport Ford’s team principal stated earlier this year that the team would not be able to build a new car in time for 2027.

Yet a rumour from a foreign outlet suggests that Malcolm Wilson’s team may use a Lynk & Co model for the 2027 season. Lynk & Co is a well-known Chinese car brand founded by Volvo and Geely, and in recent years it has been active in TCR competition. Finally, once again, M-Sport Ford is expected to be the last WRC team to announce its driver line-up for 2026.
