Loeb confirmed to have tested Project Rally One’s WRC27 prototype

Sébastien Loeb has reportedly tested Project Rally One’s new WRC27 prototype, adding another intriguing chapter to the Belgian outfit’s preparations for its planned World Rally Championship debut in 2027.

According to reports published on October 8, 2026, Loeb was spotted testing the car during its development programme. Although no official video footage of the Frenchman behind the wheel has emerged, a photograph shared on social media appears to support the reports. The test would represent an important opportunity for Project Rally One to benefit from the experience of one of rallying’s greatest drivers. However, Loeb’s potential involvement in the team’s competitive programme remains unconfirmed.

Led by motorsport engineer Lionel Hansen, Project Rally One is developing a new-generation rally car ahead of the introduction of the WRC27 regulations. The prototype features bodywork inspired by the Porsche Macan, although Porsche is not officially involved in the project. The team has already completed initial asphalt testing and is continuing its development programme on both tarmac and gravel, with the aim of preparing the car for its first competitive appearance.

Loeb is not the only high-profile driver the team has considered approaching. Hansen has previously revealed that he held discussions with Loeb and Hyundai star Thierry Neuville about the possibility of joining the project. However, neither driver was interested at that stage, with both considering other priorities. The team has also expressed interest in attracting further established names to strengthen its ambitions for 2027.

Project Rally One has announced six drivers for its initial testing and development programme, combining WRC experience with expertise in rally-car development: Stéphane Lefebvre, Teemu Suninen, Freddy Loix, Bruno Thiry, Raphaël Astier and Quentin Gilbert. These six drivers have been identified as part of the testing programme, with two additional drivers expected to be announced.
