Sébastien Ogier has yet to decide what his WRC future will look like in 2027, but one thing is already certain: the nine-time world champion will not contest Rallye Monte Carlo.
After another remarkable season with Toyota, Ogier has reached a point where he wants to take time away from the championship before deciding whether he will return. Rather than committing himself to another programme immediately, the Frenchman intends to wait for more information and carefully consider what comes next.
His decision is particularly significant given Ogier’s relationship with the rally. Monte Carlo has been one of the defining events of his career, and he has repeatedly demonstrated an exceptional ability to master its unpredictable conditions.
Instead, Ogier appears to be considering his options with an open mind. A part-time return later in the season remains possible, depending on how the calendar develops and how he feels after taking some time away from competition.
That approach would be consistent with the programme Ogier has followed in recent years. Since returning to Toyota after his full-time career began winding down, he has successfully combined selective WRC appearances with the freedom to spend more time away from the championship.
The results have been remarkable. Even without contesting every round, Ogier has remained capable of fighting for victories and podiums against drivers competing throughout the entire season.
"As you know I will not be at the Monte Carlo, and I'm not sure I will be at any event so far", Ogier said.
"There is no plan yet, but let's see.
"That's the only thing which is sure right now.
"But the rest, I still want to reflect a little bit more and wait maybe a bit more to have more information about the calendar, for example.
"At least at the moment, I'm happy to have a break and then think about it.
"And I still feel that there is pleasure I'm taking, and I still have a bit to give to this sport.
"But right now I need some time to reflect.
"Probably you won’t see me often, but it’s not impossible that I’m back sometimes".
