Latvala not concerned of Hyundai's asphalt pace in Belgium

The team principal of Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT, Jari-Matti Latvala, does not fear the tarmac pace that Hyundai drivers showed at Ypres Rally Belgium taking into account the wrong set-up of the Yaris.

The Toyota drivers struggled with the behaviour of their car on the first day of Ypres Rally Belgium, especially on the corners and on the braking areas as it seemed from the onboard broadcast that there was a difficulty turning the car.

On the other hand, the Hyundai drivers were more comfortable with their car as they were turning it smoothly and easier in coomparison with the Japanese car.

In fact, the Hyundai drivers won the most of the stages at Ypres Rally Belgium showing their dominance to their rivals.

However, it must be mentioned that the Janapese team tested in different conditions for Ypres Rally Belgium and they did not expect the dry conditions they faced there.

"Ypres was very specific", Latvala told DirtFish.

"It’s clear to see the pace is on a different level from the two guys [Thierry Neuville and Craig Breen] who have done this rally in the past.

"I’m not concerned about Hyundai’s result in Belgium.

"OK, Tänak was fastest on the first stage and he hadn’t been there, but maybe he was just the fast starter.

"Probably we should have taken the softer car from the start, once we changed the set-up to let the car move more in the dirty places and under braking it was better and we could see our drivers setting fastest times.

"I’m not concerned for this, for me it was about the experience".
