Wilson predicts an interesting championship after Ogier's departure from WRC

The team boss of M-Sport Ford, Malcolm Wilson, believes that Sebastien Ogier's departure from WRC will make next season's championship more interesting and this fact in combination with the new car coming will mix up the championship fight.

The seven-time World Driver Champion of WRC announced at the end of 2020 that he will retire from WRC at the end of this season, but he keeps the door open in his potential participation next year with Toyota for a small number of events.

Normally Ogier would have retired from WRC at the end of the previous season, but due to the pandemic and to the consecutive cancellations of the events he decided to extend his stay in WRC for one more year, because he did not want to end his career with only seven raced as he mentioned.

"There’s no question that Séb leaving will open up the championship", Wilson told DirtFish.

"You’ve only got to look at the last, however many years, it will make it a really, really interesting championship.

"You know my feelings.

"I love to see the masterful work Séb does.

"I love it, the way he works and his and Julien’s approach – it’s fantastic.

"But if you look at how Elfyn’s evolving, he’s going to be knocking on the door.

"Thierry will be knocking on the same door and if Ott doesn’t have another year like the one he’s having then for sure he’ll be back there.

"And if you then throw Séb in for a few rounds next year, he’s going to put a spanner in the works and create some more interest.

"I really believe it’ll be a good season and good for the sport.

"And, on top of that, we’ve got the new cars coming.

"There’s no doubt, 2022 is shaping up very nicely".
