Toyota happy with Finland and Sweden tests on snow

The technical director of Toyota Gazoo Racing, Tom Fowler, admits that his team's preparations for the second WRC round of this year's Championship went well in Finland and in Sweden and they did some adjustments to the Toyota GR Yaris Rally1.

The Japanese team was in Finland after the end of Rallye Monte Carlo and scheduled a four-day test program for Kalle Rovanpera, Elfyn Evans, Takamoto Katsuta and Esapekka Lappi.

In addition to that test program in Finland, Toyota completed a four-day test program in Sweden as well last week ahead of next weekend's Rally Sweden.

Esapekka Lappi will make his return to WRC next weekend with Toyota and he is favorable to win in Sweden as he likes snowy conditions.

"The test was successful", Fowler said.

"We tested in Finland after Rallye Monte-Carlo and that was the first time we’d run the full hybrid car in cold conditions.

"Finand test was OK, we had no issues.

"Obviously there was a little bit of tuning work to do, a little bit of adaptation, but nothing dramatic.

"We were testing in temperatures between 0°C and -10°C, I think that’s a representative window for what we’ll work in next week.

"The Finland test wasn’t completely ideal in terms of conditions – we’ve had a lot of snow in Finland recently and there was a lot on that test.

"It wasn’t ideal for a performance test.

"We did our four days in Sweden and it all went smoothly.

"It was good to have Esapekka back in the car – we made good progress".
