Lappi surprised by his pace at Rally Sweden

Esapekka Lappi is surprised by his own pace at Rally Sweden considering the fact that he was absent from the World Rally Championship since the start of 2021.

The Finn driver secured his first podium in Sweden [third place of the podium] after his WRC comeback and fought with Thierry Neuville for the second position overall on Sunday.

The last time that Lappi competed in WRC before Rally Sweden was in Finland in 2021 when he competed with a Toyota Yaris WRC as privateer.

It must be mentioned that Lappi confirmed on the post-event FIA press conference that the next round that he will compete will be Rally Croatia which will be held on April 21-24.

"It's been amazing let's say to come back and be in the pace from the first stage immediately", Lappi said.

"I was a bit surprised to be honest and I was more surprised I could stay on the pace more or less the whole weekend.

"I think the guys stepped up a bit onSaturday and on Sunday and I couldn't do that.

"Anyway, good weekend overall.

"But you can't get too excited.

"To do one stage is okay but to do one weekend like this is normally not easy after such a break.

"That's why I was surprised by myself that I could really perform the whole weekend.

"But rallying is not an easy sport, definitely, but maybe the holidays work for me and it's good there is a long gap before the next round."
