Neuville's initial target to finish in top five in Portugal

Thierry Neuville is being of the opinion that six drivers could fight for the victory of Rally de Portugal, but not him taking into account his road position there.

The Belgian driver will start second on Friday stages meaning that he will lose time in comparison with his rivals who will start after him as he and Kalle Rovanpera will clean the roads.

Furthermore, after the difficult start Hyundai has in 2022, the reliability of the i20N Rally1 will be tested on a gravel event for the first time and it will be a challenge for the team to see if their car will face again hybrid issues in that surface.

"I’m going to be second on the road", Neuville said.

"Some very fast drivers are going to be starting very far behind, so at the end, the challenge will be for us to fight for the top five – or maybe the podium, but I think the realistic goal will be the top five.

"We have I think five or six drivers ahead of us starting far back on the road who can go for the victory.

"So it’s gonna be tough but we knew that.

"We knew that already after Sweden.

"If we messed up here in Croatia we’d be in a bad starting position for there".
