Official: Toyota confirms Lappi for Sardinia

Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT confirms that Esapekka Lappi will be behind the wheel of the GR Yaris Rally1 in Sardinia as Sebastien Ogier will participate in WEC testing on Sunday 5th June.

Sebastien Ogier and Esapekka Lappi are sharing the third Rally1 car of the main team of Toyota in WRC for this season while the first one is expected to take part in five rallies in 2022 as he has signed a contract to compete for Toyota in WEC as well.

The French driver finished in second position overall in WRC opener in Monte Carlo and was fighting with Sebastien Loeb for the victory of this event throughout the weekend.

Esapekka Lappi took over from Ogier in Sweden and continued his WRC program in Croatia as well finishing third and 49th overall respectively.

In Portugal, Ogier will make his second outing with the Toyota Rally1 car, therefore Lappi cannot compete there and will participate for Toyota in Sardinia.

"At the moment the only thing I can say is the next one after Portugal won't be in the calendar for me also as it clash with the Le Mans", Ogier said.

"The Sunday of Sardinia you need to be at Le Mans in the car for the mandatory test day.

"This one also cannot fit, but after that there will be some open discussions with the team.

"The plan is to do five rallies for me this year and it should definitely stay around that but we will prefer to keep it a bit open for the me and the team to see how things are going and exactly which one will be nominated for me and Esapekka".
