Pirelli to debut an updated version of Scorpion KX tyre in Portugal

Pirelli Motorsport will bring a revised version of Scorpion KX WRC tyre at this week's Rally de Portugal which will be available in two compounds.

The Italian brand is trying to improve its tyres for the rest of 2022 after the disastrous start in which several WRC drivers suffered from punctures.

In fact, it must be mentioned that there were eight punctures at Rally Croatia in one single day which put the drivers into concern about the durabitity and the strength of Pirelli tyres.

Therefore, Pirelli will introduce an updated hard and soft compound of Scorpion KX WRC tyre in Portugal and this will be the first update for this season.

"As the first gravel rally of the season, Portugal will be a big test for the teams and their new cars, and the first chance to see how they compare on the most common surface in the WRC", Terenzio Testoni said.

"It’s also the first opportunity to deploy the new HA and SA compounds of our Scorpion KX WRC tyres.

"These combine what we learned during our first season back in the WRC last year, with the special characteristics demanded by the latest Rally1 cars.

"The hard and rocky base of the stages in Portugal means the hard compound is the main choice here, but we can also expect the soft to be popular for the first pass of stages and especially if it rains.

"A wide range of weather and surface conditions are possible, so this should provide a good all-round test for the tires".
