Rovanpera expects a much closer title fight in 2023 after Tanak's move to M-Sport

Kalle Rovanpera predicts that next year's championship fight will be much closer than in 2022 and believes that it is good that the winning drivers will be in all the teams for the whole season.

The World Rally Championship of 2022 was not tight as Kalle Rovanpera dominated with six wins and finished with a 50-point gap ahead of the second Ott Tanak. In fact, the gap that the young Finn created during the 2022 season was so big that his absence from two rallies would not affect his margin.

Toyota has announced Kalle Rovanpera and Elfyn Evans as its regular drivers for 2023 whereas Esapekka Lappi will join Thierry Neuville at Hyundai who has a multi-year deal with the team. M-Sport Ford confirmed Ott Tanak three days ago who is ready to fight for another championship in WRC after his departure from the Korean squad.

"Definitely, next year is going to be more difficult in terms of the title fight", Rovanpera said.

"I think all the teams especially Hyundai is much closer to us than they were at the beginning of the season.

"It is nice to see Ott go to M-Sport and we have winning drivers in all the teams for the whole season, so for sure it is going to be big challenge and for us and a bigger challenge than this year.

"We need to push again harder and be consistent".
