What strategy did Lappi follow in Croatia?

Esapekka Lappi reveals what was his strategy for Croatia Rally which was to be consistent during this tarmac event.

The Finn driver secured his maiden podium with Hyundai Motorsport in Croatia last weekend, as he finished third overall, but the most important thing is he managed to finish at the top three in his first time on this tarmac round of World Rally Championship. In comparison with his rivals, he set the fastest time only in one from twenty stages as he was struggling with the set-up of his i20N, but generally he stayed out of issues and was controlling his gap from Sebastien Ogier and Kalle Rovanpera on Sunday.

"Our strategy was a good one – it paid off", Lappi said.

"There were some good times and some worse times, we were never really at the top pace, but we were consistent through the rally.

"It’s not an easy event, the tyre choice is complicated – even when it was dry, it was not always clear if the hard or the soft was the better choice.

"The Tarmac is smooth and you have a lot of pollution, that’s tricky to deal with.

"When you have the dampness and the cuts, and you should stay on the road, that makes it even more tricky".
