Kim steps down as Abiteboul appointed Hyundai Motorsport President

Hyundai Motorsport announced that Cyril Abiteboul will take over Sean Kim's duties in 2024 as the last one will take a new role on the team structure.

Sean Kim was appointed as Hyundai Motorsport's President on 8 February 2022 whereas Cyril Abiteboul replace Julien Moncet from the start of 2023 season as the last one was the deputy team principal a year ago. Abiteboul had zero experience on rallying, as he was the managing director of Renault F1 Team for seven years, but he accepted the offer from the Koreans earlier this year and organised better the team as he filled the empty job title of technical director after his having hired Francois-Xavier Demaison last June. Last but not least, the most important achievement is that Abiteboul managed to pεrsuade Ott Tanak to return back to Hyundai Motorsport and created a very strong line-up for 2024 which consists of five drivers.

"In just twelve months, Cyril has given us a clear roadmap for improvement with an impressive strategic skill set", the vice president of motorsport at Hyundai, Till Wartenburg, said.

"We have benefitted from his experience and insight over the course of 2023, and he has been instrumental in bringing new vigor to Alzenau, attracting key hires such as FX Demaison and, of course, encouraging Ott Tänak to return.

"We say thank you to Sean Kim for his able stewardship over the past two years and look forward to building on this strong foundation with greater success in the future".
