Rovanpera excludes the possibility of competing in WRC2 in 2024

Kalle Rovanpera dismisses the possibility of taking part in WRC2 class next year and was impressed by the behavior of Toyota GR Yaris Rally2.

The Finn driver announced a month ago that he will have a partial programme with Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT in 2024 as he wants to relax mentally and physically. No one expected to hear this new from Rovanpera after his becoming a two-time World Rally Champion and winning two titles in a row. So far, it is yet to be confirmed in which rallies he will participate with the third Toyota GR Yaris Rally1, but the Japanese team may choose Rovanpera and Sebastien Ogier to fight against each other in a WRC round which means that there will be four cars in this case. Last but not least, Rovanpera was among the drivers who had the chance to test the new Yaris Rally2 and to give to Toyota mechanics feedback for developing further the car.

"Like I said, Rally2 cars are nice, they’re good cars", Rovanpera said.

"I tested the Yaris Rally2 and the chassis, everything is really nice and I enjoyed the car.

"But, if we really wanted to go with them as the top class in WRC we would need to increase the power and the show from the car.

"When you are in the forest you really need to feel that the rally car is coming.

"I’m not convinced Rally2 would be the right choice – maybe Rally2 on steroids".
