Toyota will not bring too dramatic changes to Yaris Rally1 in 2024

The team principal of Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT, Jari-Matti Latvala, admits that his team will not bring too major upgrades to GR Yaris Rally1 in 2024 and it is great opportunity to focus on the Rally2 car.

The Japanese team introduced a power unit update to GR Yaris Rally1 five months ago while they postponed to bring an aero upgrade last year which was set to be done at Rally Mexico last March. However, Tom Fowler, the technical director of Toyota, revealed that the first upgrade on Yaris Rally1 will be introduced in two months from now, maybe on third or fourth rally of the season. In addition to that, Toyota is also focusing on developing the GR Yaris Rally2, which will make its WRC2 debut at Rallye Monte Carlo, and many drivers have tested it including Sami Pajari, Kalle Rovanpera and Bryan Bouffier.

"These days there are quite a limited amount of homologation jokers, so there are no big things you can do over the season", Latvala said.

"But of course, there are some areas where we need to do some work, but there is nothing too dramatic for 2024 on the car, which is a help as of course we have a Rally2 programme for the team and those first cars will be appearing in Monte Carlo.

"In that sense Rally1 is in a good balance at the moment".
