Toyota GR Yaris Rally2 granted FIA homologation

Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT confirmed today that FIA approved the homologation of GR Yaris Rally2 which can makets debut from Rallye Monte Carlo onwards.

The Japanese team wanted to expand its activity in motorsport by involving in WRC2 class apart from their participation at the top level of the World Rally Championship. Toyota unveiled a concept GR Yaris Rally2 car at Rally Japan two years ago where Juha Kankkuned had the chance to drive it only in one stage in that WRC round. In addition to that, the Jari-Matti Latvala's team scheduled many tests with it during 2023 and the mechanics had the chance to process the data from different surfaces as it was tested on tarmac, snow and gravel. However, the most important thing is that Toyota trusted many drivers for the Rally2 development as Jan Solans, Pierre-Louis Loubet, Sami Pajari and Stephane Lefebvre were among the drivers who tested this new car in Alps a month ago. Apart from these drivers, Takamoto Katsuta, Elfyn Evans, Kalle Rovanpera, Norihiko Katsuta, Latvala and Juho Hanninen tested GR Yaris Rally2 as well. Finally, it must be mentioned that the Yaris Rally2 will be available only for customers and Toksport may take over Toyota's team in WRC2 class while it is rumored that there will be four entries with this car in Monte Carlo as Bryan Bouffier, Pajari, Solans and Lefebvre may take part in the first WRC round of the season with the Toyota Rally2 car.
