Saudi Arabia secures a slot to the WRC calendar for ten years

FIA and WRC Promoter announced during the press conference in Sardinia that Saudi Arabia will host a WRC round for the first time starting from 2025.

There was a huge interest from FIA and WRC Promoter to expand the WRC calendar to other markets, such as Middle East and United States, but it is obvious that a desert rally was missing from the championship. 2011 was the last year when World Rally Championship visited Middle East and specifically Jordan where Sebastien Ogier finished at the top step of the podium with Citroen. The government of Saudi Arabia signed a ten-year contract with WRC Promoter and FIA for hosting a WRC round from 2025 while it must be mentioned that other motorsport series have already visited this country, such as Dakar Rally and Formula1. The next year's calendar is set to be revealed this month and so far it is known that the places of Saudi Arabia, Sweden, Islas Canarias, Finland, Greece, Monte Carlo and Portugal are secured to the championship.
