Skoda Motorsport unveiled the reason why Oliver Solberg was forced not to compete at Rally Italia Sardegna a week ago which means that he did not take part in two rounds so far this season.
The Swede driver has applied to participate in five from six rallies until the end of Rally Sardinia while his name was not at the entry list of Croatia Rally. His participation at Rallye Monte Carlo was not nominated due to the fact that he wanted to gain experience for this special event and he has claimed two podiums so far this year from which he finished at the top step of the podium on his home event, but he scored zero points in Portugal as he rolled his Skoda on the same stage that Kalle Rovanpera crashed. However, it was supposed to make his appearance in Sardinia without scoring points for the championship, but he and Toksport decided to withdraw his entry due to the fact that he suffered from a severe allergic reaction a day before the start of the Shakedown session and the opening day of the rally. His next outing of the season will be in Poland this month where his entry is nominated in order to score points for the WRC2 championship.
"Oliver Solberg had not nominated Rally Italia Sardegna as one of his WRC2 points scoring events", Skoda's press release stated.
"Fortunately, it had to be said in hindsight.
"The 22-year-old Swede was hit by a severe allergic reaction just hours before shakedown.
"Following the advice of the doctors, he decided not to start – his Škoda Fabia RS Rally2 remained parked in the Toksport WRT service tent".
