Kalle Rovanpera says that it was not wasy for him to win Rally Chile last weekend, but he managed to create big gaps thanks to the weather conditions and is being happy that he helped Toyota with the manufacturers' championship.
The reigning WRC Champion claimed his fourth win of the season with Toyota and stole Elfyn Evans's lead on the penultimate Saturday stage due to the foggy conditions. Generally, Rovanpera stayed out of trouble apart from Stage 4 where he had a small spin and had to reverse in order to keep going again. Other than that, he was struggling with the car on Friday and this was the reason why he completed the opening day of the rally at the third place. Rovanpera managed to score 28 points at Rally Chile from which the 18 points came from his first place on Saturday classification, the six points from being second on SuperSunday and four points from Powerstage. His next outing with Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT is expected to be in Japan in two months as his name is not included to the entry list of Central European Rally.
"This win feels really good for us", Rovanpera said.
"It was a tough weekend and it always feels good when you’ve really had to fight for a victory.
"It wasn’t easy at any point with all of the weather and everything, but we did a good job.
"On Friday I wasn’t feeling so comfortable, but we made it through without any big mistakes and when conditions became difficult we could make some big gaps.
"It was important to push today as well and together with our team-mates we scored really important points for the manufacturers’ championship and we can be very happy with that.
"A big thanks to the team: the car was really strong this weekend".
