The team principal of M-Sport Ford, Richard Millener, supports his drivers for their efforts at Rally Islas Canarias taking into account the lack of the experience both Gregoire Munster and Josh McErlean have.
Both M-Sport Ford drivers complained about understeer during Rally Islas Canarias. Gregoire Munster is the #1 driver of the British squad and finished eleventh overall on the fourth WRC round of this year's championship while he had a moment in Stage 11 as he went off the road into a ditch and lost more than three minutes there. On the other hand, Josh McErlean was the top M-Sport Ford driver on the classification until Stage 14 where he was forced to retire after his having hit an armco. Totally, the Malcolm Wilson's team is third overall on the championship and scored only 11 points in Islas Canarias.
"Of course it is never easy to finish an event so far off the pace of the top positions, but we must remember that both our crews are still in the early stages of their careers, and at a rally where the road conditions mean it is a complete leveller for the top cars", Millener said.
"Any mistakes or struggles with setup and confidence here are heavily punished.
"It is a shame for Josh and Eoin, but learning at the top level like this was never going to be plain sailing.
"Greg and Louis did well to keep any frustrations at bay and continued to work hard all weekend at improving both the car and their own performance".
