Hyundai to learn from disastrous Rally Islas Canarias

The technical director of Hyundai Motorsport, Francois-Xavier Demaison, is being of the opinion that his team will learn from its mistakes at Rally Islas Canarias and will come back even stronger for the next WRC rounds.

The Alzenau-based team finished at the 5-6-7 at Rally Islas Canarias with Adrien Fourmaux being the best Hyundai driver whereas Thierry Neuville slipped behind Ott Tanak at the end of the penultimate stage of the rally when he suffered from a front left puncture. From the beginning, Hyundai drivers could not match the pace of the Toyota drivers and were struggling with understeer. Apart from this, Hyundai considered that it would be a grat chance for them to test some new things to the i20N since its drivers could not follow the pace of Toyota drivers. At the end of Rally Islas Canarias, Toyota incresed further their lead over Hyundai to 51 points.

"Rally Islas Canarias has been a difficult rally for us", Demaison said.

"It became an intensive test session for us where we tried a lot of different things on the car.

"We kept pushing today but it was very tough against the four Toyotas, who were very fast.

"On tough weekends like this, you learn a lot of very interesting things which we believe will not only unlock performance for us on tarmac, but on gravel as well.

"We will now take everything we have learned from these setbacks to come back stronger at the next events".
