The Hankook's WRC spokeperson, Steven Cho, confirmed that they will bring an updated gravel tire at Rally de Portugal just in time before WRC heads to the gravel part of the season.
Hankook won FIA's tire tender and became the official tire supplier from the beginning of 2025. Its priority is the reliability and has not focused so much on the performance. This can be proved by the fact that there were few punctures on the first four rounds of this year's championship. However, Hankook is ready to introduce an updated tire at Rally de Portugal next week as the championship heads to some very rough events, such as Rally Italia Sardegna and Acropolis Rally Greece, before going to the fast gravel rallies of the season in Estonia and Finland.
"There’s a new specification of gravel tire coming for Rally1 at the next event – we’ve been planning that from the beginning of the program with all the different stakeholders, and so we’re looking forward to introducing that new tire", Cho said.
"It’s very similar, but we’ve made some changes to the pattern, so it should be a little bit more robust even than the tires that we’ve had before.
"As we build up towards Sardinia and Greece, we expect the conditions to be much stronger, or much more difficult.
"So small changes, but we want the tire to be even more robust".
