Ott Tanak admits that he was expecting to be fighting for the second place of Rally Estonia, but he did not expect to be behind Oliver Solberg on the classification.
Solberg spent only two days for testing the Toyota GR Yaris Rally1 in Finland before the start of Rally Estonia. He finished fifth on the Shakedown standings, but it seemed he found the right set-up for his car. He won nine stages in total out of twenty stages and managed to be first overall from Stage 2 to 20. His performance was impressive considering the fact that he is competing in WRC2 class this year and had not spent so many time inside a Rally1 car compared to his rivals. Furthermore, he managed to become the third youngest driver in World Rally Championship, who won a WRC event, and to keep three WRC Champions behind him in Estonia (Kalle Rovanpera, Ott Tanak, Thierry Neuville). On the other hand, Tanak was the best of the rest and finished second overall, but everyone was expecting that Rovanpera would win Rally Estonia 2025 since he has won this event three times so far and had a great road position on Friday.
"I actually expected a bit that I would be fighting for second place" Tanak said.
"I already felt before the rally that I would struggle a bit to show the pace here — which is frustrating, because I should be showing it in Estonia, on the roads I’ve grown up on.
"Anyhow, I was expecting it to be behind Kalle, not behind Oliver.
"He did a great job.
"He was able to dominate".
