Elfyn Evans is talking about the season he had in World Rally Championship this year saying that opening the road on dry gravel rallies damaged his chance to become a WRC Champion.
The Welshman was leading this year’s championship for the most part of the season which meant that he had to open the road on all gravel rallies this year. Although he was losing time compared to his main title rivals, he was able to score some good results on these rallies and showed a great consistency during this season. Unfortunately, it was not enough as he lost his chance to clinch his maiden title in World Rally Championship when he got a puncture in Saudi Arabia resulting in dropping further back on the classification. On the other hand, Ogier started Rally Saudi Arabia with a three-point disadvantage over Evans, but he managed to maximize his road position by finishing third overall a week ago and eventually becoming a WRC Champion for a ninth time in his career. Last but not least, it must be mentioned that Evans won two rallies while he finished at the podium positions eight times during the 2025 WRC season.
“From our side, it was an okay campaign”, Evans said.
“We had an amazing start which built this incredible lead, but we obviously paid the full price of leading the road on all gravel rallies
“It also meant that we had to open the road on these dry gravel rallies during the summer, but they also were not my strongest rallies, so I think that was the most damaging part in the season for us.
“But, nevertheless, we will go next year”.
