Toyota Gazoo Racing finished on all three steps of the podium at the Rally Sweden for the second time in as many rounds of the World Rally Championship, with Elfyn Evans claiming another victory on the snowy stages and leading a commanding 1-2-3-4 finish.
Following last month’s 1-2-3 result at the Rallye Monte-Carlo, this marks the first time a manufacturer has locked out the podium in consecutive WRC rounds since Citroën achieved the feat in 2010. The last time it was accomplished in the opening two rounds of a season dates back to 1984, when Audi did so at Monte Carlo and Sweden.
It is the second consecutive year that Evans and his co-driver Scott Martin have won the WRC’s only pure winter event, and their third victory in Sweden overall. This makes the Welshman one of the most successful non-Scandinavian drivers in the history of the rally, equalling the number of wins achieved by his team-mate Sébastien Ogier, as well as matching the three victories recorded by Kenneth Eriksson and Tommi Mäkinen.
