The FIA World Rally Championship is set to make a long-awaited return to the United Kingdom in 2027 with the launch of WRC Rally Scotland, bringing the championship back to one of rallying’s most historic and passionate regions.
Organised in collaboration with Motorsport UK, the new gravel rally will be based in north-east Scotland. The rally headquarters and service park will be located at the modern P&J Live complex in Aberdeen, while competitive stages will take place across the spectacular forest roads and landscapes of Aberdeenshire and Moray.
The agreement represents an initial three-year deal beginning in 2027, marking the end of an eight-year absence of the WRC from the UK following the last edition of Wales Rally GB in 2019.
Scotland’s dramatic scenery and renowned gravel stages are expected to deliver a thrilling challenge for the championship’s leading drivers and manufacturers. At the same time, the region’s strong infrastructure and transport connections will provide excellent access and facilities for teams, media and fans attending the event.
The rally has been secured through a partnership between Motorsport UK, the WRC Promoter and the Scottish Government, with additional support from Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire councils. The partners aim to establish Rally Scotland as a major international sporting event that will generate significant economic impact and tourism opportunities for the region.
Before the event joins the championship calendar, a Candidate Event will take place later this year. During this process, the FIA will work closely with Motorsport UK and the event organisers to assess preparations and ensure the rally meets the standards required for World Championship competition. Following this evaluation, the event will be submitted to the FIA World Motor Sport Council for approval to be included on the official WRC calendar.
"Since the FIA World Rally Championship last visited the UK in 2019, Motorsport UK and WRC Promoter have worked closely together to find the right pathway for its return", Simon Larkin, the Senior Events Director at WRC Promoter, said.
"We have nothing but praise for the determination and hard work shown by Motorsport UK in bringing this project to life.
"We’re delighted to be working alongside the Scottish Government and local authority partners to see this exciting initiative come to fruition - something that will benefit many, and especially the passionate rally fans across the UK".
