Adrien Fourmaux describes what happened in Stage 12 of Croatia Rally which led him to stop and to retire for the rest of Saturday.
Fourmaux was in fifth position overall at the end of Stage 11 and was trying to catch his teammate Hayden Paddon on the overall classification. However, the Frenchman did not see a small crest as it was covered by gravel. This had as a result to lose the braking point and eventually to hit a pole with the rear left of his i20N. From this impact, his car carried a rear left suspension damage, but also at the same time a cosmetic damage on the rear. In fact, the tailgate and the rear spoiler were missing as we saw from the photos on the social media. Finally, Hyundai confirmed that Fourmaux and Alex Coria will restart tomorrow under the SuperRally regulations in order to score some SuperSunday and Powerstage points for the championship.
"In the corner before our accident there was a small crest, and I didn’t see that the tarmac was disappearing and drove straight into the gravel", Fourmaux said.
"I couldn’t brake, so came out of the corner in the opposite way we wanted to.
"On the outside, there was a concrete pole, and we just clipped the wheel.
"It wasn’t too close, but it was enough for us to hit it, and we lost the rear wheel and damaged the bodywork.
"It’s been a big fight since yesterday as we focused on regaining ground we had lost, and it was working okay until then".
