Solberg's accident in Croatia was caused by his limited experience with the hard tyre

Oliver Solberg admits the fact that his limited experience with the hard Hankook tyre led him to misjudge the grip in Stage 1 resulting in being the first victim of Croatia Rally.

The Swede driver was starting second on the road on the first day of Croatia Rally, but he did not have a dream start as he understeered, hit a cliff and his Yaris was thrown out into the forest just five kilometers into SS1. Despite the spectators' efforts, Solberg and Elliott Edmondson were forced to retire for the rest of the day as their car was stuck into a ditch. Toyota has confimed that the crew will restart on Saturday under the SuperRally regulations and are set to start first on the road.

"It was really disappointing what happened in the first stage this morning", Solberg said.

"It was my first time with this hard tyre on the car in rally conditions and I was maybe too optimistic considering that limited experience.

"I was just a bit too fast in this corner, misjudged the grip that I had, and ran wide and touched the wall.

"I’m very sorry for the team, but I will try to learn from this.

"We’ve had a good feeling with the car and tomorrow is a chance to learn some more and get ready to aim for points on Sunday".
