Arvid Lindblad has revealed that rallying could become part of his future once his Formula 1 career comes to an end, after enjoying his first-ever experience behind the wheel of a World Rally Championship car at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
The 18-year-old Brit swapped his F1 machine for an M-Sport Ford Puma Rally1 car on Goodwood's challenging forest gravel stage. Before taking the wheel himself, Lindblad experienced the course from the co-driver's seat alongside M-Sport WRC driver Jon Armstrong, giving him valuable insight into the unique demands of rally driving.
Despite already competing at the highest level of circuit racing, Lindblad admitted the rally experience pushed him well beyond his comfort zone. He described the run as both exhilarating and eye-opening, saying it gave him an even greater appreciation for the incredible skill required to drive a Rally1 car at speed through narrow forest roads.
The young Formula 1 driver also confessed that his interest in rallying has grown significantly over the past few years. After finally getting a taste of WRC machinery, he believes rallying is something he would seriously consider pursuing once his Formula 1 journey is complete.
"It was amazing, so thanks to Jon and the guys here for the opportunity for starters, as it is my first time doing anything like that", Lindblad said on the Goodwood Festival of Speed live stream.
"We drive pretty quick in Formula 1 and I wouldn’t say I was scared but I was very much outside of my comfort zone and very taken aback.
"It was just amazing to experience, it is so different to what we are used to so just to get an appreciation for these guys. It is so different. It was so much fun.
"Rallying is something that I have been learning more about and I have actually become more fond of rally recently, and it is something I would like to potentially pursue one day once I’m done with my current endeavours.
"After having my first little taste of it now, I have a bit more of an appreciation for what these guys do because the cameras and the onboards don’t really show it.
"It is amazing, it is so quick and you are so close to the trees, it is fast, and it is really impressive what these drivers do".
