The FIA has described Rally di Roma Capitale as a successful candidate event for the FIA World Rally Championship, following a comprehensive evaluation carried out during this year's edition of the rally. The inspection forms part of the process ahead of the event's planned inclusion in the WRC calendar from 2027.
Throughout the weekend, FIA representatives assessed every aspect of the organisation, including sporting operations, safety procedures, logistics, media facilities and fan engagement. The evaluation was conducted in close cooperation with the event organisers and WRC Promoter, with the aim of ensuring the rally meets the standards required for world championship status.
Officials praised the collaborative approach shown by the organising team, highlighting the strong commitment to continuous improvement. While several areas for further refinement were identified, the FIA described the discussions with organisers as constructive and positive, providing a solid foundation for the event's future development as it prepares to join the WRC.
Rally di Roma Capitale has become one of the flagship events of the FIA European Rally Championship in recent years, combining iconic city-centre ceremonies in Rome with demanding asphalt stages across the Lazio region. The rally has steadily grown in profile, attracting leading European drivers and large crowds, making it a natural candidate for promotion to the World Rally Championship.
The successful candidate event represents another important milestone in the transition towards the WRC. With the FIA and local organisers continuing to work closely together over the coming months, preparations are expected to continue at full pace to ensure the rally is ready to welcome the world's best crews when it joins the championship in 2027.
"The completion of the Rally di Roma Capitale candidate event marks an important step towards bringing the FIA World Rally Championship to a new landmark location in the heart of Rome", the president of the FIA, H.E. Mohammed Ben Sulayem
"This is another exciting moment for fans, reflecting a year of growth for the Championship in 2026, with candidate events in the United States, United Kingdom and the historic capital of Italy.
