Takamoto Katsuta describes the incident that happened at the Powerstage of Rally Finland saying that it was his fault while he believes that he had a tough weekend.
The Japanese star started second on the road on Friday and was losing major time compared to his teammates. In fact, he lost four places and dropped to ninth after Stage 2 while he completed the second day of Rally Finland at eighth overall as he lost many seconds in Stage 8 due to fact that the windshield was completely fogged. However, he managed to get some positions back and concluded Saturday at fifth overall as he took advantage over Sebastien Ogier's crash as well as Thierry Neuville's puncture in Stage 17. He started Sunday with a big gap against his closest rivals who were Neuville and McErlean, but the last two avoided to make mistakes on the final two stages of the rally whereas Katsuta lost the rear of his Yaris and went straight into the trees in Stage 20 resulting in damaging the radiator. After this incident, he was driving slowly in Powerstage and lost his fifth position from Neuville while he finished ahead of McErlean for 14,5 seconds. After the end of Rally Finland, Katsuta slipped behind the second Sami Pajari on the championship standings for eleven points as he scored zero points two days ago.
"It’s been a really tough weekend for me", Katsuta said after Rally Finland.
"Today I was hoping to try and take some extra points but it didn’t go so well in the end.
"In the final stage I saw a rock sticking out on the inside and tried to avoid it, but there was so much loose gravel off the line.
"We went wide and couldn’t make the next right-hander and hit a tree.
"It was my mistake and I feel very sorry for the team.
"I just need to reset and do better next time".
