Sebastien Ogier congratulates Sami Pajari and Marko Salminen for their win at Rally Finland and was unfortunate for him to end this weekend in that way after the strong performance he showed since the beginning of the event.
Ogier grabbed the rally lead from Adrien Fourmaux and moved up from third to first at the end of Stage 2 showing his adaptability as Julien Ingrassia stepped in to replace Vincent Landais who was forced to miss the tenth WRC round due to personal reasons. The nine-time WRC Champion was managing his lead over his closest rivals who were Sami Pajari and Elfyn Evans while he was lucky in Stage 8 as he had a big slide and the rear went deep into the ditch. In total, he won five stages until the start of Stage 17 which was the penultimate stage of Saturday. In Stage 17, he and Ingrassia had a brutal crash as Ogier lost the rear of his Yaris and went straight. Eventually, the car ended up in the forest after firstly being rolled in the air. He and Ingrassia managed to step out from their car immediately while medical stuff offered their services on site. Afterwards, the crew were transferred to the hospital where they stayed overnight for further examination while they returned to their homes today.
"This was not the way that we wanted to end this weekend especially after everything was going so well", Ogier said.
"But the most important thing is that we are both OK, so a big thank you to the team for building such a strong car.
"I also need to thank Julien for taking good care of me immediately after the impact and reassuring my family I am well.
"We will take some rest now and make sure we are back to full strength soon and thank you for all the messages we received.
"Congratulations to Sami and Marko for another victory and all the team for locking out the podium at home once again".
