Elfyn Evans heads into Rally Italia Sardegna with the 2026 World Rally Championship title firmly within his reach.
The Toyota driver leads the standings on 230 points, with team-mate Sami Pajari 17 points behind on 213 and Oliver Solberg a further four points back on 209. With Sardinia now confirmed as the final round of the season, all three remain mathematically capable of becoming world champion.
If the Welshman scores 19 points or more in Sardinia, he will become the 2026 WRC Drivers’ Champion regardless of what Pajari and Solberg do.
A victory would guarantee the title immediately. Under the current scoring system, a rally win is worth 25 points, meaning Evans would not even need to collect additional points from Super Sunday or the Wolf Power Stage.
There are several combinations that would also take him to the required 19-point total:
- Second place overall + at least two bonus points
- Third place overall + at least four bonus points
- Fourth place overall + at least seven bonus points
- Fifth place overall + at least nine bonus points
The championship fight becomes considerably more complicated if Evans scores fewer than 19 points.
Finishing sixth overall would give Evans eight points from the rally. Even if he then collected all 10 available bonus points from Super Sunday and the Wolf Power Stage, he would finish the weekend with 18 points. In that situation, Evans would have to keep an eye on the results of both Pajari and Solberg, with the final championship positions potentially being decided by the points gap or, in the event of a tie, by the championship countback rules.
