The 2027 FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) calendar will not feature the Vodafone Rally de Portugal, with a last-minute change forcing a temporary break in the presence of one of the championship’s most iconic events.
The rally had initially been scheduled to take place from 13 to 16 May, but changes made by the WRC promoter on the final day of preparations for the 2027 season, aimed at creating a geographically diverse and truly intercontinental calendar, resulted in the Portuguese round being left out.
Despite its absence from the 2027 schedule, there is already an intention to bring the Vodafone Rally de Portugal back to the World Rally Championship in 2028.
Initial discussions have taken place between the Automóvel Club de Portugal (ACP) and the WRC promoter to assess the possibility of the event returning to the championship for the 2028 season.
The decision represents a one-year interruption for a rally that has long been regarded as one of the most emblematic and popular events on the WRC calendar.
