Just four days after celebrating their World Rally Championship titles, Elfyn Evans and Scott Martin are already back in action, getting behind the wheel as Toyota continues preparations for the 2027 season.
Fresh from their success in Sardinia, the Toyota team has wasted no time before returning to testing with its new-generation Rally1 car. After Kalle Rovanperä completed asphalt testing in Spain last week, the programme has now moved to gravel in Portugal.
Evans is the third driver to get behind the wheel of the new car this week, following Sami Pajari on Tuesday and Takamoto Katsuta on Wednesday. Oliver Solberg is also expected to take part in testing over the weekend, while Sébastien Ogier is not scheduled to drive during this week’s programme.
There was also a special touch waiting for Evans. Toyota brought the number 1 to the new car as a celebration of his championship success, marking the first time the Welshman has carried the number as the reigning World Champion.
Toyota’s new Rally1 machine is now believed to be very close to its final homologation specification, with the remaining technical details of both the car and the team expected to be revealed early next month.
