Mikkelsen ambitious for a WRC 2022 return

Andreas Mikkelsen hopes that he will have the chance to come back in WRC with a WRCar in 2022 providing he achieves good results this year in WRC2 category.

The Norwegian driver stayed out of WRC at the end of 2019 as his contract with Hyundai expired and he was not the option from the other WRC teams.

For this reason, he is now competing in WRC2 category with the Skoda Fabia evo R5 of the private team, Toksport WRT, and he finished first at Rallye Monte Carlo and at Rally Estonia.

At Rally Estonia, he took the lead from his main rival, Mads Ostberg, at the end of Stage 6, because the last one faced many problems with his car and was unable to respond.

"To take the win and maximum Power Stage points, it’s the jackpot", said Mikkelsen.

"We got some help from Østberg and his problems, but even when his car was working well on day one, we were faster.

"Since then I had a big lead and I tried to control things.

"I have a very good programme this year which, maybe, can put me in a position to challenge for a seat next year.

"I think it depends on my results.

"If we do a good result and we have good speed, good consistency, I think then the possibilities are there".
