Official: Solberg to drive the Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC in Spain

Hyundai Motorsport announced today that Oliver Solberg will compete in this year's Rally Spain with the fourth Rally1 car of the team which will be held in October.

The Norwegian driver has already driven the Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC in two WRC events this year (Arctic Rally Finland, Safari Rally Kenya) and in Rally di Alba.

It was expected to have taked part in 2021 Rally Sardinia with this car, but his father, Petter, tested positive at Rally Portugal, so both of them were forced to be isolated in a hotel for 14 dayswhich meant that it was impossible to have been at Rally Sardinia, because it was held two weeks after Rally Portugal.

This year's Rally Spain will include only tarmac stages and it will be the third outing for Solberg's career in WRC.

It must be mentioned that Solberg finished seventh overall at Arctic Rally Finland while he was forced to retire from Safari Rally Kenya due to suspension and chassis damage to his Rally1 car.

"It’s fantastic to be back in a WRC car", Solberg said.

"When I drove the Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC in Alba earlier this year, the experience was just amazing.

"For sure I’m really, really looking forward to it.

"It’ll be an awesome challenge.

"Like we know, this generation of cars is nearly at an end, this will be one of the last races with these cars – so it’s a real privilege to be in it and competing again.

"I know I talk a lot about my dreams and having them come true, but this is the same – it’s another dream come true and I have to say a big thank you to Andrea and the team.

"And to be going in the car to Spain is really special as well.

"There’s something so spectacular about the stages there and, of course, we all know about the huge numbers of fans.

"To go to Catalunya with the proper, proper car will be something very special".
