Ypres Rally - 2nd Day - 2nd Loop: Tanak moves up to first after Neuville's crash [+video]

At the end of the afternoon loop of the second day, Ott Tanak is the new leader of Ypres Rally with Elfyn Evans and Esapekka Lappi following him.

Ott Tanak is now out in front at the end of Saturday and set the fastest time in Stage 15 and 16. Despite the fact that he dropped time in the first two stages of the afternoon loop in comparison with the second Elfyn Evans, he managed to take some seconds back on the last two stages.

Elfyn Evans leads the 2-3 for Toyota and was chasing Tanak for the second place until the start of SS15 and Neuville's crash. He was the fastest driver in Stage 14 and his gap from the first position is at 8,2 seconds.

Esapekka Lappi completes the top three and was happy with his run in the afternoon.

Oliver Solberg moved ahead of Adrien Fourmaux at the end of SS15 and is now fourth overall.

Fourmaux was ahead of the Hyundai driver for 1,6 seconds at the end of Stage 14, but he is now in fifth place overall after the 20-second time penalty he took in SS15. More specifically, there were a lot of people on the road section before the start of SS15 and was trying to pass them. As a result of that, police stopped him, so the M-Sport driver started two minutes late in that stage.

Takamoto Katsuta is in sixth place overall and said at the end of SS16 that again he had no hybrid boost.

Kalle Rovanpera and Gus Greensmith are outside the top ten.

Thierry Neuville was leading his home event until the start of the penultimate stage of the day. He understeered off onto a ditch on a left-hander and got stucked, but the spectators managed to take out his car from the ditch. However, afterwards he pulled over on an access road due to front right damage. He was the fastest driver in Stage 13 and, before his crash, he was leading Ypres Rally for 17,2 seconds over his teammate.
