Tanak to clarify his WRC future after Rally Japan

Ott Tanak says that he has not decided his WRC future yet and may make a desicion about it after the end of Rally Japan.

The Estonian driver announced his departure from Hyundai Motorsport at the same day after the end of Rally Spain despite the fact that his contact was about to expire at the end of 2023. However, it must be mentioned that he said that it is not sure if he will continue in World Rally Championship next year due to personal reasons.

His options for 2023 are M-Sport Ford and Toyota. Jari-Matti Latvala, the team principal of Toyota, said that there is no point on changing the line-up for next season after what they achieved in 2022. On the other hand, the British team faces financial problems, therefore it is difficult to offer a proper deal to Tanak.

"Altogether, the reasons behind leaving Hyundai were many", Tanak said.

"Anyway it has been a long year and that was the call in the end.

"And about next year I can honestly say I have nothing at the moment, we just have to see what time will bring.

"I will check to see what is available after I fly back from here."

Finally, he anwered when he was asked if he would like to do a full season next year: "It depends on many things.

"It depends how I feel.

"If I feel that whatever I do next year gives me a chance to fight for the championship.

"This is something I have been missing, being able to fight for the championship.

"I will find out if this opportunity will come".
