Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT is set to present the new GR Yaris Rally2 car at Rally Japan next week which will be its first ever car for WRC2 class.
The Japanese team started testing and developing this new Rally2 car in Finland earlier this month as the first chassis was built on October 1.
According to sources, the GR Yaris Rally2 will be driven by Juha Kankkunen in some stages of Rally Japan next week and will be available to the customers after the end of 2024. It must be mentioned that Toyota had expressed its interest to build a WRC2 car in the past, but this never happened until now.
"Japan would be the perfect place – and will be the perfect place to launch the Rally2 car", one source from Toyota said.
"And to have somebody like Kankkunen driving on some stages is perfect.
"There’s even talk that somebody else might be getting behind the wheel…
"Let’s see".
