Ostberg was looking for other challenges rather than WRC in 2022

Mads Ostberg says that his option was not to take part in World Rally Championship at the start of 2022, but to find another challenges in his rallying career, and is being satisfied with the season he had.

The Norwegian has 139 starts in World Rally Championship while he lost the battle to become a WRC2 Champion again in 2021 as his compatriot Andreas Mikkelsen managed to take the WRC2 title last season. However, the one-time WRC rally winner was absent from WRC and WRC2 class in 2022 as he took part in many events of five different coutries [Hungary, Italy, Chile, Qatar, Mexico] and won the champiomship of Hungary this year. In fact, he had ten victories in 14 races.

"It’s been a good season and it’s been an enjoyable one as well for me, with a little bit less pressure and doing a bit more just how I feel and how I want, and sometimes that can be good as well", Ostberg said.

"It’s been a really good year.

"There were no plans for WRC at the beginning of the year and I wasn’t really looking for it either through the year, to be honest.

"I stay focused on other things and I think for many reasons it was a good way to do it.

"I was looking for other options. Like I ended up going to Qatar, which I think was also probably one of the best rallies I did all season, where we came there and were fighting with Nasser Al-Attiyah, leading after the first day and so on, on the first attempt on one of these desert rallies.

"It was these types of challenges I was looking for and I had fun and it was also successful, so I think in many ways it was also one of the highlights of the season".
