Bertelli's first impression with the Toyota GR Yaris Rally1 [+video]

Lorenzo Bertelli says that he felt very comfortable inside the Toyota GR Yaris Rally1 and wants to do more outings in 2023 apart from the upcoming Rally Sweden.

The Italian made a shocking announcement last month as he stated that he will take part with the Toyota Rally1 at Rally Sweden after his multi-year participartion with M-Sport and Ford in World Rally Championship. He was at Toyota base in Jyvaskyla last week and had the chance to test for the first time his new car ahead of the second round of this year's championship. As Jari-Matti Latvala had said before the start of 2023 season, his team's target is to offer the fourth Yaris for rental and Bertelli becomes the first privateer driver who will get behind the wheel of the Japanese car.

"For sure, I was expecting a fast car, because of course this is a world championship-winning car", Bertelli said.

"I expected it to be maybe not as easy to drive as the Ford, because the Ford is generally very famous for being quite easy to be driven.

"I have been surprised positively because, actually, the Yaris was very agile and not nervous at all, and also very easy to drive.

"To get all those components together in a rally car is not so easy, so I have been impressed by how quickly I became comfortable in the car.

"I like fast rallies and Sweden is probably my favourite rally of all.

"I’m really looking forward to it because I love the snow and I love Sweden in general.

"I’m trying to see if there is an opportunity to do another event this year.

"I need to investigate whether it’s possible with my ordinary job because I am always quite busy.

"For me this is like taking holidays - it’s not so easy - but I am working on it, so let’s see if I will have another opportunity".
